Mark Herzlich's journey was certainly one of the most compelling storylines heading into Super Bowl XLVI. Unfortunately, the former Boston College star and current New York Giants linebacker is inactive for the big game, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

After being diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma, a rare form of cancer, during his time at Boston College, Herzlich was told by various doctors that he may never walk again, much less suit up for another football game. Herzlich beat his cancer, powered through his rehab, and ulimately made the Giants roster after signing as an undrafted free agent.

Herzlich may not be able to take the field for the Giants in Sunday's Super Bowl, but you can bet that his presence on the sidelines will be a source of inspiration for the rest of his team.
