Saer Sene‘s soccer journey has taken him from the lower leagues in France, to one of Europe’s biggest clubs, and now to New England. On Monday, The Revolution signed Sene on a free transfer from German giants Bayern Munich.
The-25-year-old forward participated in New England’s recent training camp in Arizona, impressing with his size, speed and technique. He will bolster the Revs’ attacking options, which is often cited as an area of concern. Revolution head coach Jay Heaps told the club website that Sene adds a new dimension to the attack.
“He has a lot of pace in getting behind [defenses],” Heaps said. “He’s left-footed. We were able to train with him for a week and he’s a great striker of the ball.
“He certainly fit in right away. [When] you get a guy in [camp], you see how they interact with the team and that was a huge positive. He had days where he was the best finisher we had out there and that showed.”
Born in France, Sene’s journey saw him become a professional in Germany’s lower leagues. He played two seasons for SG Sonnenhof Großaspach, where he was spotted by Bayern’s scouts. The German powerhouse signed him, but he never played a competitive game for the first team.
He missed nearly all of the 2010-11 season due to injuries, but returned to action for the start of this season in early August. He scored eight goals and added one assist in 16 appearances during the current campaign.
