INDIANAPOLIS — New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora has been fined $20,000 by the NFL for missing a mandatory Super Bowl media session Wednesday morning.

The NFL announced the fine less than two hours after the Giants wrapped up their 45-minute session.

Umenyiora was supposed to be sitting at a riser answering questions, but he never showed up.

The rest of the Giants players and coaches attended the session, four days before the NFL title game between the Giants and the New England Patriots.

Giants spokesman Pat Hanlon said Umenyiora was in meetings and will practice. He did not give a reason for Umenyiora’s absence from the media session.
