Rays to Give Away Don Zimmer ‘Zim Bear’ Replacing DJ Kitty as Team’s Creepiest New Promotion (Photo)

Someday, having a good baseball team will be enough to draw Tampa Bay Rays fans to the ballpark. Until then, we'll be stuck reading zany story after zany story about the Rays' various promotions and giveaways.

We may have a new leader in the clubhouse, however, at least when it comes to the creepy factor.

Yahoo's Big League Stew blog points out that the Rays will give out "Zim Bears" on June 29 when the Rays host the Tigers at Tropicana Field. What's a "Zim Bear," you ask? It's a horribly creepy combination of longtime baseball man and Rays consultant Don Zimmer and a teddy bear. It's also what may come to mind if one were to picture the Cowardly Lion from The Wizard of Oz as a bear.

It's as creepy as one might expect (see the photo below), but it's an interesting tactic by the Rays. With this unbelievable giveaway, Tampa may actually be able to distract folks that their new mascot is named DJ Kitty.
