Even if they were interested, it looks like the Bruins may come up short in the Tuomo Ruutu trade deadline sweepstakes. In fact, there might not be a Ruutu sweepstakes at all.

According to ESPN, the Hurricanes 28-year-old winger is reportedly looking to sign a contract extension with his current team.

“Our priority now is to try and re-sign him,” Carolina general manager Jim Rutherford said on Thursday.

Ruutu, an unrestricted free agent after the 2011-12 season, has 17 goals and 11 assists in 55 games for the Hurricanes, who are in last place in the Eastern Conference. The Finnish forward was rumored to be one of the Bruins’ targets for the Feb. 27 trade deadline.
