The trade activity in the NHL is starting to pick up, with defenseman Pavel Kubina reportedly the latest to be dealt.
The Lightning have traded Kubina to the Flyers, according to TSN. The deal, in which a second-round draft pick and a fifth-round draft pick will reportedly go to Tampa Bay, is pending league approval.
The trade is the second the Flyers have made for a defenseman this week, as Philly already acquired Nicklas Grossman from the Dallas Stars for second- and third-round round picks.
Kubina gives the Flyers a solid, two-way presence and a veteran who has won a Stanley Cup (with Tampa Bay in 2004). The team had been seeking a defenseman since losing captain Chris Pronger for the remainder of the season earlier in the year.
In addition to two different stints with the Lightning, Kubina has spent time with the Maple Leafs and Thrashers. He is in the midst of the second year of a two-year contract he signed with the Lightning in 2010 with an annual average salary of $3.85 million. He'll become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.
Kubina was held out of the lineup this week as Lightning GM Steve Yzerman tried to deal him. Yzerman reportedly asked Kubina for a list of five teams to which he would accept a trade, as the defenseman has a no-trade clause in his contract.
Kubina has 3-8-11 totals in 52 games this season.
