While face-of-the-Penguins-franchise Sidney Crosby entered the league the following year, his talented Pittsburgh partner in crime, Evgeni Malkin, was the second overall pick in the 2004 draft. Even more notably, Washington Capitals winger Alexander Ovechkin was taken with the top pick that year.
