Tyler Seguin, Deion Branch Included in Cross-Sport Prop Bets for Super Bowl XLVI

Some of the great props unveiled for the Super Bowl offer the chance to bet on how a few of the players in the big game will fare in a cross-sport competition against a player who is competing in another sport on Super Bowl Sunday.

There are a handful of these for Super Bowl XLVI between the New England Patriots and the New York Giants on Bovada’s NFL football odds, including two Boston-centric options pairing a couple Patriots players against the Boston Bruins.

With the reigning Stanley Cup champions visiting the Washington Capitals on Sunday afternoon, one prop bet is the number of catches for Patriots receiver Deion Branch — the MVP of Super Bowl XXXIX when New England beat Philadelphia — against the number of shots on goal for young Bruins star forward Tyler Seguin (both players at -115).

Branch was relatively quiet this season with 51 catches. He has had a total of only five in the Pats’ two playoff games as he’s become Tom Brady’s fifth option these days.

Seguin, meanwhile, averages about 2.8 shots per game this season. The Bruins have faced Washington just once so far this year and Seguin had two shots in that game (and a goal). His season high for shots in a game this year is six.

You can also bet on how many TD passes that New England’s Tom Brady throws against the number of goals the Bruins score vs. the Caps (both options also at -115).

Brady was fourth in the NFL this season with 39 TD passes (2.4 per game) and had two in the 24-20 regular-season loss against the Giants. Brady had a record-tying six touchdown passes in the divisional round playoff win over the Denver Broncos but none in the AFC title game against the Baltimore Ravens.

The Bruins lead the NHL in scoring at 3.5 goals per game. In their one game so far vs. Washington, the B’s had three in a two-goal loss on Jan. 24 in D.C. Boston’s season high in goals is nine on Jan. 5 in a blowout of the Calgary Flames.
