The Celtics added an extra body to take up space down low by signing Ryan Hollins on Friday.
Hollins, a 7-foot center out of UCLA, appeared in 24 games with the Cavaliers this season before being waived Tuesday. Per league rules, the Celtics had to wait 48 hours for Hollins to clear waivers before picking him up.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The Celtics requested waivers on Chris Wilcox to open a roster spot for Hollins. Wilcox will miss the rest of the season with a heart ailment after averaging 5.4 points and 4.4 rebounds in 28 games this season with the Celtics.
Hollins has career averages of 4.2 points and 2.3 rebounds in six seasons with four teams. Like Wilcox, his strength is defensive energy and running the floor. He struggles defensively in the post and has never been effective on the boards.
