The NFL Players Association became the latest pro sports entity to lend its support to the family of slain Florida teenager Trayvon Martin on Tuesday.
"The NFL Players Association offers its sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of Trayvon Martin. The community of NFL players stands together as ONE TEAM against any form of injustice," read the statement released by NFLPA president Domonique Foxworth on behalf the union.
Martin was killed was shot and killed on Feb. 26, and the shady circumstances surrounding the incident — primarily the lack of arrest for the shooter, George Zimmerman — have led to protests and demonstrations across the country.
Athletes, organizations and sports personalities alike have offered their support, usually by donning a hooded sweatshirt, the same piece of clothing that Martin was wearing when he was killed. The Miami Heat were among the first to show their support in doing so. In addition to the NFLPA statement, Foxworth and NFLPA assistant executive director of external affairs George Atallah both posed for a photo wearing a hoodie.
