Donald Trump simply does not think before speaking. That’s largely what makes The Donald so darn entertaining.
So it should come as no surprise that he’s back in the news for something he said, and this time, he’s picking on a familiar foe.
Trump took a not-so-veiled shot at Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez during Sunday night’s episode of Trump’s show, Celebrity Apprentice.
The business tycoon dumped on Rodriguez as a way of praising former pop star Debbie Gibson, whose selfless remarks impressed Trump.
“I really don’t care who gets the credit,” Gibson said in the midst of an argument with some other quasi-celebrity who appears to be Teresa Giudice, a woman apparently famous for being a housewife in New Jersey.
“That’s a good statement,” Trump quickly responded. “That’s a very good statement. That’s all about winning. That’s a Derek Jeter-type statement. That’s Derek. Is he great? We love Derek. That’s not an A-Rod statement, that’s a Derek statement.”
It’s not the first time that Trump has gotten on Rodriguez’s case, though. As the New York Daily News points out, Trump blasted Rodriguez last fall saying that the Yankees third baseman is “a less than average baseball player now that he is unable to use drugs.”
Those are pretty strong words. Rodriguez was asked about the comments on Monday at Yankees camp, and he declined to comment saying that he’s going to remain focused on baseball.
Perhaps that’s the kind of “A-Rod statement” that even Donald Trump can support.

“I’m not a free agent. I’m a guy straight off the couch, straight off the street. One thing I want the sports world to understand is the love and passion I have for football.”
