West Philadelphia born and raised. On a playground is where he spent most of his days.

It isn’t just the basis of the theme songĀ  to The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air; it actually sums up Will Smith‘s childhood, which is why the actor couldn’t be any more ecstatic that he’s co-owner of his hometown 76ers, who sit atop the Atlantic Division standings.

The Sixers pulled off a 99-86 win over the Celtics on Friday night in Philly, and the victory gave head coach Doug Collins 400 for his career. More importantly, however, it allowed Smith the opportunity to take the podium after the game and address the media.

Sure, Smith was thrilled that Collins added a nice, little milestone to his coaching resume. But the victory was even sweeter because of who the opponent was, as Smith claimed that Larry Bird ruined his childhood.

Fortunately for Bird, there’s still time for the longtime Celtics legend to throw a wrench into Smith’s excitement this year. Currently, the Sixers and Bird’s Pacers sit in fourth and fifth place, respectively, in the Eastern Conference, meaning the two teams are on a collision course to meet in the first round of the playoffs.

Who knows? Maybe Larry Legend will walk through that door.

“I think about a lot of things to improve this team, to figure out how to manage the finances of it. One thing I haven’t thought of is Kobe [Bryant] being somewhere else. I don’t know why that question has ever come up and I’d like to squish that one.”
