Although many Bruins fans likely took joy in seeing Daniel Sedin get roughed up a bit, Duncan Keith's elbow to the face was a bit much.

And for that, Keith will be forced to sit and watch for a little bit, as league disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan has slapped the Blackhawks defenseman with a five-game suspension.

Keith delivered an elbow to Sedin's head at 13:36 of the first period of Wednesday's game. The puck trickled past Sedin in the neutral zone, and as the Canucks foward turned around, Keith went up high with the 'bow and knocked Sedin to the ground.

Keith received a minor elbowing penalty as a result of the play, but Shanahan determined that two minutes in the sin bin wasn't enough. Under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement and based on his average annual salary, Keith will forfeit $149,688.15 in addition to sitting out five games.

Check out Shanahan's assessment of the hit and explanation for the suspension in the video below.
