Former LSU Women’s Soccer Goalie Mo Isom Trying Out to Earn Walk-On Football Spot as Tigers’ Kicker

Mo Isom has pretty much done it all in her time at LSU.

The Marietta, Ga., native was a four-year starter on the Tigers’ women’s soccer team, setting all kinds of records and even scoring a 90-yard goal in a game. Off the field, she was named LSU’s homecoming queen and starred in an entertaining YouTube series appropriately titled Meaux Vs.

However, she’s not done just yet.

Isom is wrapping up her collegiate career by trying to earn a spot as a walk-on kicker on the national runner-up Tigers football team. Tuesday marked the beginning of spring tryouts, and Isom was there to try her hand — or foot — at earning a spot on Les Miles‘ squad.

“People’s first presumption about this is that it’s a media stunt or some attempt for attention and glory,” she told Gannett. “That couldn’t be any farther from the truth. I feel it was a goal God placed in my heart. It’s just something I want to do.”

Isom told the Shreveport Times that she struggled with field goals thanks to windy conditions, but she did say she had some “great” kickoffs.

Miles, a.k.a. The Mad Hatter, is unsurprisingly open to the idea for the time being.

“No, I would have no reservations playing her,” Miles said. “If she gave us an opportunity and an advantage, and I mean add an advantage, then certainly we would consider that. The good thing about it is she’s an athlete. She’s been through team before. She understands the commitment. I would have much less reservation with her than I would any number of other people that frankly didn’t know what they were getting into. But the real interesting thing is it has to be an advantage obtained.”

Isom is no stranger to the Tigers football program, either. In her Meaux Vs. YouTube videos posted to the athletic department’s page, she has taken on football players in various challenges — including kicking — and held her own to say the least.
