BRADENTON, Fla. –– Franklin Morales is back.

For the first time in spring training, the Red Sox reliever toed the rubber in a Grapefruit League game, and he tossed a scoreless inning.

A few days into spring training, Morales was shelved with shoulder weakness and an irregular heartbeat. After the Pirates' 6-5 win on Wednesday, he said the first taste of action was encouraging.

"I feel good," Morales said. "I threw my pitches. I threw my sinker and splitter and curve. I feel very good. I feel confident and what I need to do is get hitters out. I'm going to be fine."

Morales struck out the first batter he faced, but will continue to return to form in time to be available for Boston's Opening Day game against Detroit.
