When mom doesn’t approve, it’s tough to keep doing what you’re doing. In James Harden‘s case, that entails playing basketball and growing his beard.

Mama Harden is fine with the hoops thing. It’s that ratty-looking chin sweater she’s not too keen on.
Harden, the front-runner for Sixth Man of the Year, is hesitant to mess with a good thing in Oklahoma City.

"It’s tough, because that’s your mom," Harden said on The Doug Gottlieb Show on ESPN Radio. "You don’t want to tell her no, but at the same time, this is who I am now. It’s The Beard. Everybody knows me by my beard now."

What was once an endearing hipster beard now looks like that terrible thing Ron Burgundy grew out after he was dumped by KVWN Channel 4 in San Diego. ("Milk was a bad choice.") Harden admitted that even he is scared to touch it.

As long as rumored girlfriend Trina approves, Harden can feel free to keep his beard and Take It To Da House.

Give Harden some credit. Other players who want to make a fashion statement just throw on a headband.
