London Olympics Will Feature New Women's Volleyball Uniforms (Photos)As more nations are being encouraged to compete in the Olympics, the games must adapt to a more diverse set of cultural and religious beliefs.

A major step toward doing that was made Tuesday. The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) moved to allow women to wear uniforms other than the standard bikini in order to accomodate cultures and religions where women prefer to cover up.

The new rule has already gone into effect for FIVB's Continental Cup, a series of tournaments where teams can qualify for the Olympics.

"Many of these countries have religious and cultural requirements, so the uniform needed to be more flexible," FIVB spokesman Richard Baker said.

Of course, as with any change in sports, the entrance of something new provides an opportunity to look back at the old.
