Mamelodi Sundowns Down Powerlines FC 24-0 in South African Soccer Game (Video)Had Goliath dodged David’s rock, the world would be robbed of one of its favorite metaphors. On Sunday, Mamelodi Sundowns and Powerlines FC played out the alternate version of the famous story in a South African FA Cup game, according to the BBC.

South African Premier League club Sundowns met fourth-division Powerlines and the outcome was never in doubt. Sundowns jumped out to a 10-0 lead by halftime. It added 14 more to complete the most lopsided result — 24-0 — in the history of South African soccer.

“I want to compliment my players for entertaining the public and going about their job seriously,” Sundowns manager Johan Neeskens said. “This result is good for our confidence and what I really admired was the way the team kept it simple even when dominant.”

Hlompho Kekana padded his stats with seven goals in the contest. Strikers Nyasha Mushekwi and Richard Henyekane chipped in with six and five respectively.

Sundowns progressed to the last 16 of the competition, while Powerlines have gone down in (relative) infamy.
