The Miami Heat likely thought they were carrying out a nice gesture to honor slain 17-year-old Trayvon Martin when they recently posed for a photo while donning black hoodies.
Sirius XM radio host Dan Graca isn't quite buying their compassion.
Graca recently discussed the incident involving Martin, a high school student who was shot and killed on Feb. 26 by George Zimmerman, a self-appointed community watch captain who said he acted in self-defense. Zimmerman, who called police to report Martin — who was wearing a hoodie at the time — as suspicious, was never arrested or charged with the killing, leading many to call for justice.
The Heat are among those who have shown support for the victim and his family by donning hoodies, although Graca doesn't think that was the real motive for the Heat's tribute.
Graca, who said he doesn't know what the team's message is, thinks that by posing in the hoodies, the Heat are making the situation a "black-white issue."
"They're doing this for their own publicity, their own PR," Graca said of the team's tribute.
"It's nothing more, and don't be fooled, don't be fooled by the facade here," Graca added. "All it is is, 'Hey look at me. I'm a celebrity, and I need some attention.' That's all it is."
Perhaps Graca is the one who needs some attention.
