Orioles infielder Robert Andino only hit .263 last season, but he still gave the Red Sox fits, especially on the last day of the season.
Andino was the guy who delivered the two-out, ninth-inning RBI single in the season finale to cap off a Baltimore rally, allowing the Tampa Bay Rays to then secure the American League wild card moments later.
Although the Rays weren't able to do any damage in the postseason, they're still appreciative of the help that Andino provided on the season's final day. And for that, Andino received a standing ovation from the Rays dugout prior to his spring training at-bat in the top of the first inning against Tampa Bay on Friday.
"We just talked about that prior to the game, what was the appropriate thing to do? We saw him in the two-hole, we said let's give him a nice round of applause," Rays manager Joe Maddon said. "He was startled by it. He didn't know what was going on. He was looking around. I thought it was pretty good."
