Report: Drew Brees ‘Livid’ After Saints Placed Franchise Tag on Quarterback

The Saints placed the franchise tag on quarterback Drew Brees on Saturday which means he's likely to make at least $14 million (and perhaps as much as $16 million) next season. However, it sounds like Brees is not a fan of the move.

Brees is "livid" about the team's decision to tag him, according to WIST-AM in New Orleans via CBSSports.com. Brees is so upset, in fact, that if he doesn't get the long-term deal he's looking for, he'll hold out.

The two sides were working to come to terms on a new long-term deal, and as NOLA.com points out, Brees was "very optimistic" recently that the deal would get done.

The Saints and Brees now have until July 16 to hammer out a new deal.
