If pain heals and chicks dig scars, then it looks like Ryan Duncan won't have any problem with the ladies from now on.

Duncan, a former Hobey Baker winner, is currently playing for the Phoenix Coyotes AHL affiliate this season. In overtime of Sunday's game, Duncan took a skate to the face and headed to the hospital for some serious work.

Four hours and 45 stiches later, Duncan emerged a little worse for the wear but seemed to be in good spirits about the whole thing. He tweeted a picture of himself after surgery, including the hashtag "#whysoserious," a nod to the Joker's scars in The Dark Knight.

Taking a skate to the face is nothing new for the pro hockey ranks, considering Taylor Hall was banged up pretty good earlier this year and the Bruins' own Shawn Thornton required 40 stiches himself after an incident against Chicago last season. But Duncan might be the first to make such a solid pop culture reference in the aftermath of it.
