Ryan Lavarnway Blasts Solo Home Run in First Game of Spring, Feels ‘Good’

FORT MYERS, Fla. –– Ryan Lavarnway didn’t disappoint in his first plate appearance of the spring. With the bases empty against the Twins, the Red Sox catcher blasted a solo homer off Scott Baker to left field in Thursday’s “B” game.

After a few innings, Lavarnway was yanked to allocate time to other catchers, but the youngster is looking to build on his progress.

“That felt good,” Lavarnway said. “I’m a little nervous it’s going to be downhill from there. It’s good to get the first couple at-bats out of the way and have him throw it in my happy zone.”

While speaking to reporters, Lavarnway also praised starter Alfredo Aceves’ fastball and curveball during the outing.
