Tim Tebow-Inspired $22 Sandwich Is Slice Above on List of Top Foods Named After Athletes (Photos)

Before Colorado residents could even settle into a life of Tebowne steak and water turned to wine, fan favorite Tim Tebow has been traded cross-country to one of America's culinary meccas. One local deli has already taken advantage of the move, offering a sandwich in honor of the new quarterback.

Carnegie Deli in Manhattan introduced the Jetbow on Monday, a 3.5-pound sandwich glutted with pastrami, roast beef, corned beef, cheese, lettuce and tomatoes, according to ESPN. The restaurant owners say it's the first time the deli has used white bread and mayonnaise in a sandwich made for a celebrity, with rye and mustard the usual choice for that combination of meat goodness.

The mix was made to signify Tebow’s "All-American boy" image, owner Sandy Levine told ESPN, and will cost $22.22 — Tebow's No. 15 and first-string quarterback Mark Sanchez's No. 7 added together.

Naming food after athletes isn't a new idea; almost every team christens a solid sub or savory sandwich after a local hero. (Doesn't your Main Street eatery have Big Papi grinders and Dustin Pedroia milkshakes?) But a few special treats have risen above hometown fare into greater fame.
