Last season, it was phenom Kyrie Irving who made the jump to the pros after one year, and he was drafted by the Cavaliers as the first overall pick. One year later, first-year shooting guard Austin Rivers finds himself in the same situation.
Rivers, 19, and son of Celtics coach Doc Rivers announced on Friday that he is going "one and done" and will enter this year's NBA draft. The 2011 McDonald's All-American led Duke in points per game this season with 15.4, and his three-pointer at the buzzer to stun North Carolina on Feb. 8 showed Rivers has poise under pressure, living up to his nickname "Sub-Zero."
But with only one year of experience at the college level, is Rivers ready to join his father in the NBA fraternity? He is expected to be picked in the first round, and could follow in Irving's footsteps by hearing his name called first by commissioner David Stern. The amount of hype that surrounds Rivers will only continue to build until the draft on June 28.
