FORT MYERS, Fla. –– The first round of cuts from Red Sox camp is underway.

The team announced Friday that it had optioned outfielder Che-Hsuan Lin and third baseman Will Middlebrooks to Triple-A Pawtucket, while sending lefty Drake Britton and second basemen Oscar Tejeda to Double-A Portland.

In addition to those moves, the Red Sox reassigned outfielder Juan Carlos Linares and pitchers Tony Pena Jr., Chorye Spoone and Alex Wilson to minor league camp.

As a result of the cuts, the Red Sox now have 56 players in major league camp, including 36 players from the 40-man roster, two players on the 60-day disabled list and 18 non-roster invitees.
