After all, the B's had a comfortable lead over Ottawa in the standings and were challenging the New York Rangers for tops in the Eastern Conference.
Now, it's suddenly becoming a real question not only whether Boston can hold onto the Northeast Division, but also if they will make the postseason, period.
Their recent play certainly hasn't inspired much confidence, but they still currently occupy a place in the top eight of the East, so they'd be in if the season ended on Saturday. The question is if they'll be able to remain in that top half of the standings the rest of the way.
