Carl Crawford Returns to Boston for Another Elbow ExaminationCarl Crawford's return to the Red Sox may have hit another snag.

Before Tuesday's game against Minnesota, Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine told reporters that the outfielder returned to Boston in order for doctors to re-examine his bothersome left elbow.

It marked the second time in two weeks that Crawford made the trek up north to address his elbow. After swinging in the Fenway cages during the Tampa Bay series, the four-time All-Star told NESN.com that he felt "pain free."

Crawford went onto fly down to Fort Myers to participate in extended spring training games and homered twice. But with the recent trip to Boston, Valentine still isn't sure about Crawford's status and said he was still "getting all the information" from the medical staff.

"He didn't play today, and we're trying to keep him continuing on his progress," Valentine told reporters in Minnesota. "His elbow's a situation that we really want to deal with sooner rather than later to make sure it's fine before he starts throwing.

"Until a guy's 100 percent, you always have concern."

Crawford was initially sidelined from action after undergoing surgery on his wrist in January.
