It takes one rotten apple to sour the barrel.
That almost became the case in the Boston hockey community after racist social media comments were dug up following Game 7 between the Bruins and Capitals. In that decisive match, Caps forward Joel Ward scored the game-winning and series-clinching goal in overtime.
While the hockey world isn't pointing a finger at the Bruins fanbase as a whole for these disgusting comments, the media asked head coach Claude Julien about what he on Friday.
"I didn’t find out until later and I’m really disappointed," Julien said. "There’s absolutely no need for that and as the organization said, it certainly doesn’t reflect our organization and even our fanbase. It just takes one or a few of those comments to come out and it really tarnishes things. I was really disappointed to be honest with you. You hope that somewhere down the road we’re going to get past this stuff.
"Ward is a player that deserves to be in this league and he’s been a good player," he added. "For something like that to come out is disappointing to say the least and I’ll leave it at that."
