David Ortiz Ready to Lead Red Sox Offense, Says 'It's Time to Produce'BOSTON — Spring training treated David Ortiz well. And the Red Sox’ designated hitter has carried that momentum into the regular season.

With one homer and five RBIs in Boston’s 13-5 win over Tampa Bay on Saturday, the slugger picked up the offensive torch as the Red Sox’ roster adapts to life without Jacoby Ellsbury. It was Ortiz’s first homer of the season.

“It’s time to produce,” Ortiz said. “It’s not going to happen every day, but that doesn’t mean we’re not going to go at it. We have good hitters.”

Before Saturday’s game, the designated hitter was already showcasing his hitting skills, batting .333 with four RBIs. After the impressive display on Saturday, though, he has elevated his average to .406 and maintains a .444 on-base percentage.
