Professional athletes use Twitter for a variety of reasons, but very few, if any, have done what Rockies pitcher Jeremy Guthrie did this week.

Guthrie, looking for someone to play catch with in his off day, tweeted out that he was looking for someone to toss around the ball with. And he wasn’t joking. Rockies fan Woody Roseland responded and, sure enough, Guthrie got him into the empty stadium and onto the field to have a good old-fashioned catch.

But Roseland isn’t your typical fan — he’s a five-time cancer survivor. During his sophomore year in high school, he was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer and just last June, a four-inch tumor on his calf resulted in immediate amputation on his left leg. Check out the rest of Roseland’s inspirational story here.

Check out the Twitter conversation below to see how it all started.
