The Red Sox offense sputtered through the first week, save for a 12-run outburst in the series finale with the Tigers. A trip home, however, was just what the doctor ordered, as the Sox offense has exploded for 31 runs in their first three home games.
It sounds like Rays manager Joe Maddon might think that Boston's turnaround at the plate may be more than just the product of the Sox getting to sleep in their own beds.
Maddon didn't directly accuse the Sox of stealing signs following Sunday's game, but the Tampa Bay skipper definitely opened things up for interpretation.
"They're just really hot right now," Maddon said, according to The Tampa Tribune. "It's like they knew what's coming almost. They're on every pitch. They're on the fastball. They're on the breaking ball. They're on the change-up. They're on everything right now.
"They're really locked."
Rays catcher Chris Gimenez also wondered how the Red Sox were able to be so "locked" at the plate after watching starter Matt Moore get knocked around Fenway.
"We really have no idea, but it did look like they were taking some pretty comfortable passes on balls like they knew what was coming."
The Rays, who have one of the best young staffs in baseball, have been far from that this weekend in Boston. The Red Sox bats have pounded 39 hits on the way to those 39 runs, and they've hit seven home runs.
