Marlon Byrd Excited to Join Red Sox As Veteran Outfielder Adds Needed Depth in Red Sox Outfield
The Red Sox addressed a need over the weekend when they acquired Marlon Byrd from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for Michael Bowden

Byrd, a .278 career hitter, has struggled mightily at the plate this season in Chicago, but the veteran outfielder is expected to give the Sox outfield depth, especially in the wake of Jacoby Ellsbury's shoulder injury.

The 34-year-old is excited to be in Boston, too.

"While I am over here, I'm going to make sure I do everything I can, bring my energy, play hard, play my defense, hopefully get some big hits and just get this team back on the right track," he said Sunday.

The Red Sox are surely hoping he can do that as well.
