Metta World Peace — the artist formerly known as Ron Artest — joked about Odom's deactivation in Dallas following the Lakers' 93-91 win over the Hornets on Monday.
"Maybe he can come back and be a ball boy and then next year, come play," World Peace said with a grin on his face, according to ESPN.com. "That's what he should do. He'd be the first ball boy in the NBA that can play. Come back; get the towels and next year, play. Why not? He should be a scout. Lamar should be a scout."
Odom, who played with the Lakers from 2004 to 2011 before being traded to the Mavericks last December, was deactivated by Dallas on Monday. According to ESPN's Marc Stein, the Mavs intend to list him as inactive for the rest of the season instead of outright releasing him, which would leave open the possibility that they could still trade him after the season.
But World Peace still has plenty of interesting suggestions for how Odom can spend the rest of this year, and they go beyond just advising the 32-year-old to become Los Angeles' ball boy.
"Lamar should just like for one month, just be a boy scout and wear the outfit," World Peace said, according to ESPN.com. "Just have fun. You're getting paid."
As for Odom's merit badges?
"It would probably something that had to do with candy … Skittles … It would probably taste good," World Peace reportedly said, clearly joking about Odom's candy addiction. "Sweet. Edible. I guess."
And if that doesn't work out, well, Odom could always take a trip. Perhaps that trip could come in conjunction with his new boy scout affiliation.
"What's the biggest mountain in the world?" World Peace reportedly said. "[Odom] should hike it. He should go hike it. Do something that's never been done."
To answer World Peace's question, Mount Everest is the biggest mountain in the world, featuring a peak that's 29,029 feet above sea level.
