On Opening Day 2012, the New York Mets paid tribute to one of the all-time greatest catchers in baseball history, Gary Carter.
Carter, who passed away February of this year, spent five of his 19 MLB seasons with the Mets, where he earned his only World Series championship back in 1986. Carters' accolades include 11 All-Star appearances, three Golden Glove Awards, a membership in the 300 home run club and a place in the Baseball Hall of Fame.
The Mets honored the baseball legend by wearing Carter's No. 8 jerseys during batting practice, before their Opening Day game versus the Atlanta Braves.
