The Stanford quarterback was officially told by the Indianapolis Colts that he will be chosen with the No.1 overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, according to ESPN.
Luck had been projected to be the top pick in the draft since the beginning of last season. The Colts landed the opportunity to draft the coveted prospect after a disastrous 2011 season, which saw the once proud franchise fall from perennial playoff contender to one of the worst teams in the NFL.
Peyton Manning's multiple neck surgeries were a large factor in the Colts' collapse, as the star QB missed the entire 2011 campaign. Luck will now face the challenge of replacing one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, now that Manning is the signal caller for the Denver Broncos.
There was minor speculation that the Colts would defy the numerous draft experts and select Robert Griffin III with the top pick, but eventually decided the consensus No. 1 choice in Luck. Griffin will be drafted by the Washington Redskins with the second overall pick when the draft begins on April 26 according to various league sources.
