Ozzie Guillen will be forced to pay for his comments.
The Marlins announced that they have suspended Guillen for five games for comments he made regarding Cuban dictator Fidel Castro.
"The Marlins acknowledge the seriousness of the comments attributed to Guillen," the team said in a statement. "The pain and suffering caused by Fidel Castro cannot be minimized especially in a community filled with victims of the dictatorship."
This suspension comes after Guillen was recently quoted in a Time Magazine article as saying, "I love Fidel Castro," which has generated plenty of controversy in recent days.
"I respect Fidel Castro. You know why? A lot of people have wanted to kill Fidel Castro for the last 60 years, but that [expletive] is still here," Guillen was quoted as saying.
The Marlins skipper has since apologized for his comments, saying that he feels "very guilty, sad and embarrassed."
"Whoever got hurt or misunderstood, I want to apologize for the things that hurt somebody's feelings," Guillen said on Saturday. "I want them to know I'm against everything the way he's treated people the last 60 years. I've read a lot about him."
Guillen is holding a news conference to address the issue on Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m. ET.
