Scott Podsednik hasn't played in the big leagues since 2010, but the Red Sox could stand to add some outfield depth in Jacoby Ellsbury's absence.
That could explain a recent report by FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, which states that the Sox are scouting Podsednik at Triple-A.
Podsednik is currently playing at Philadelphia's Triple-A affiliate in Lehigh Valley, hitting .150 (3-for-20) through seven games so far this season. He played for four different minor league teams in 2011, as he split time between the Phillies and Blue Jays systems.
The veteran outfielder hit .254 in 134 at-bats — which spanned 34 games — down in the farm last season, while swiping eight bags and getting on base at a .340 clip.
During his last stint in the majors in 2010, Podsednik split time between the Dodgers and the Royals, hitting .297 with six home runs, 51 RBIs and 35 stolen bases in 134 total games. He was particularly strong in Kansas City, batting .310 in 390 at-bats.
Podsednik has been known mostly for his speed throughout his career. He swiped a career-high 70 bases as a member of the Brewers in 2004, a season after finishing second in Rookie of the Year voting.
The 36-year-old was named an All-Star and won the World Series as a member of the White Sox in 2005.
