Aaron Cook's Red Sox debut didn't exactly go the way he had hoped.
Not only did the right-hander allow seven runs (six earned) on eight hits in 2 2/3 innings, but he suffered a pretty nasty cut in the second inning of Saturday's game against the Orioles.
With Mark Reynolds at the plate, Cook delivered a pitch that got away from catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia and rolled toward the backstop. Chris Davis, who was on third base, then went streaking for home, forcing Cook to cover the plate. As Cook tried to corral Saltalamacchia's relay throw, Davis' spikes jabbed into Cook's leg, leaving a fresh, open wound.
Cook went into the clubhouse to receive treatment before eventually returning to the mound. The righty would get torched after the incident, but no one can dispute his toughness after watching him stay in the game following that play.
