Aroldis Chapman Sued for $18 Million by Man Imprisoned in Cuba for Human TraffickingAroldis Chapman is a man in demand these days.

The Cincinatti Reds recently announced that Chapman would be their closer, but the biggest news surrounding the fireballing left-hander is that he is being sued for $18 million by a man imprisoned for human trafficking in Cuba.

A lawsuit was filed in Miami court last week alleging that Chapman played a role in falsely accusing Danilo Curbelo Garcia of involvement in human trafficking. Curbelo Garcia was arrested, convicted and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment back in Cuba and he blames the Reds pitcher for it.

"[Chapman's] decision to leave the country led to his methodical subterfuge, which centered on demonstrating his loyalty to the state," the lawsuit states, "which he accomplished by becoming an informant … and falsely reporting and testifying against Curbelo Garcia."

The lawsuit also alleges that Chapman and his father claimed Curbelo Garcia asked for money to help him defect from Cuba.

In prison, Curbelo Garcia "claims he has suffered beatings, long stretches of solitary confinement, health problems and been given inadequate food and medical care."

So far, Chapman hasn't seemed distracted by the lawsuit on the mound. He is 4-0 with 43 strikeouts and has yet to allow an earned run in his 24 1/3 innings of work this season.
