The first inning for the Red Sox in Kansas City on Wednesday night was a wild one, to say the least.

After Marlon Byrd misplayed a ball in center field that would have gotten Jon Lester out of trouble, Brayan Pena launched one into the gap that Cody Ross looked like he was going to have a chance to catch.

Unfortunately, he wasn't able to hold onto the ball, as it slipped out of his glove and bounced off the wall before Ross collected it out of the air.

Bobby Valentine argued to no avail, but the umpires decided that since the ball hit off the outfield wall, Ross didn't control it before that point and instead credited Pena with a double. Check out the wacky play for yourself below in this animation.
