Dustin Pedroia Exits Game Against Tigers With Jammed Right ThumbDustin Pedroia showed off his usual stellar glove work on Monday, but it came at a price.

The Red Sox second baseman jammed his right thumb in the fifth inning while making a fantastic diving play on a groundball off the bat of Detroit's Danny Worth. Pedroia fired over to first for the inning-ending out, but it was the last action Pedroia would see on the afternoon.

Pedroia was replaced by Nick Punto at second when the Red Sox took the field for the bottom of the sixth.

While the injury has been called a "jammed right thumb," exact details are still limited. It's always a bit alarming to see a player get taken out, though, and the Red Sox can ill afford to lose their All-Star second baseman.
