The staredown said plenty about each fighter's mindset going into Saturday's clash.

After Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Miguel Cotto weighed in on Friday for Saturday's fight in Las Vegas, the two went face to face to pose for photos. The exchange went beyond that, though.

Mayweather, with a hint of arrogance, chomped away on a piece of gum while grinning at Cotto. In response, Cotto gave Mayweather an angry, focused look that seemed to say, "I don't care who you are."

Fighters typically use the weigh-in as an opportunity to size up their opponents, but this staredown was particularly long, leading some to believe things would soon get physical if the boxers weren't separated. Things were especially heated when the two started jawing back and forth.

No punches were thrown, so the next one will be the first. But when Mayweather throws his first jab, it'll be with a backup pair of gloves after a backstage exchange on Friday.

Shane Mosley and Saul Alvarez also weighed in for their WBC super-welterweight title fight. Following the weigh-in, Mosley's trainer, Naazim Richardson, noticed a flaw in the 10-ounce gloves Alvarez planned to use in Saturday's fight, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The thumb on each glove is reportedly covered in patent leather rather than genuine leather, therefore making the gloves unapproved. Team Cotto noticed Mayweather was using the same "unapproved" gloves as Alvarez, so Cotto's attorney, Gaby Penagaricano, objected as well.

Now, a new all-genuine leather version of the gloves is being flown from New York to Las Vegas for Mayweather to use.

In the end, the backup gloves might not mean much, but it shows how meticulous everyone is leading up to a big fight.

Mayweather, whose record stands at 42-0, is an 8-to-1 favorite, but Cotto's message on Friday was simple.

"[Mayweather's] never faced anyone like me — that's why he's undefeated," Cotto said he told Mayweather.

Those are definitely some fighting words.
