Florida Student Denied Diploma for 'Tebowing' at High School GraduationHigh School graduation ceremonies are meant to be a celebration of all the accomplishments a student has made over 12 years of studying.

Some teens hug their teachers, wave to their parents, or simply accept their diploma and smile. But in every graduating class, there is always one student who can't wait to do something unique in their ten seconds of fame.

Chuck Shriner, a 17-year-old from Fort Myers, Florida, dropped down to one knee and "Tebowed" in front of his high school principal before receiving his diploma. "Tebowing" was made famous by former University of Florida and current New York Jet quarterback Tim Tebow, who constantly drops to one knee and rests his head on his arm to pray during football games.

For his actions at the Bishop Verot High School graduation, Shriner was told he would not be receiving his high school diploma.

"They said what I did would give underclassmen inspiration to do something else, that it might lead to something else," Shriner told naplesnews.com. "So they were trying to set an example."

Upon Tebowing, parents and other students erupted in laughter in approval. The Bishop Verot High School administration, however, did not approve. Shriner was told he would have to clean the entire gymnasium the graduation was held in to earn his diploma back. After playing janitor for a night, Shriner learned who was really behind the punishment: his mother.

Shriner's mother, a math teacher at the private school, came up with the punishment idea to teach her son a lesson. After she revealed her hand in the punishment, her son didn't have regret for his actions.

"She was really mad," Shriner said. "But I think it was worth it."

Shriner will be attending the University of Central Florida to study mechanical engineering in the fall.
