Things got a little chippy at Fenway on Friday night, and the frustration was obvious in the Rays clubhouse following the game.

Rays manager Joe Maddon was upset at what transpired in the ninth inning, when Red Sox reliever Franklin Morales drilled Luke Scott after firing a pitch behind him earlier in the at-bat.

“I didn’t understand the situation whatsoever,” Maddon said. “It was not called for at all. I’m kind of curious as to regarding who put out the hit, because I know it wasn’t one of their players.”

The Tampa Bay skipper then went on to call the ninth-inning madness “incompetent behavior,” saying that the beaning was a case of the Sox trying to flex their muscles. He also used the terms “idiotic,” “ridiculous” and “absurd” to describe the situation.

Maddon took to Twitter after the game to further express his displeasure with the Red Sox’ actions, adding even more drama to this weekend’s series.
