Mike Rupp Punches Martin Brodeur, Leads to Showdown Between John Tortorella, Peter DeBoer (Video)Mike Rupp had a man’s shift in the third period on Monday night, but it was what he did after the whistle that led to a skirmish between the two head coaches and may lead to a suspension for Rupp.

The Rangers forward got after it from the face-off following the Devils’ third goal in an eventual 4-1 win in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference final.

Rupp started the shift with a couple of shots to the back of Devils winger Steve Bernier. The puck was eventually dumped into the Jersey end where Rupp then teed up Peter Harrold with a good, clean check. Anton Volchenkov was the next target for Rupp, as he got a couple of shots in, with it all leading to a penalty call for Rupp.

As the play ended, Rupp decided to get his money’s worth, by giving Devils goalie Martin Brodeur a little punch to the chest. The blow sent a surprised Brodeur back into the crossbar and a scrum then ensued.

The on-ice fireworks were overshadowed by what happened on the bench, though, as Rangers head coach John Tortorella and Devils head coach Peter DeBoer met in the middle to share their thoughts with each other.

See it all unfold in the video below.
