Nine high school cheerleaders in Utah have been suspended from school after a hazing incident that included smearing peanut butter on another squad member who was allergic to peanuts.
According to police, nine senior girls invited the squad's 12 newcomers to a local park to celebrate their addition to the squad. However, once they were there, the younger girls were blindfolded and forced to do push-ups and sit-ups while the seniors smeared ketchup, mustard, flour and peanut butter on the younger girls' bodies.
Additionally, the newcomers were squirted with a liquid that was supposedely urine, but the police believe was actually pickle juice.
One of the girls, who was allergic to peanut butter, reportedly suffered a reaction but was treated and has recovered.
While the parents of the girls aren't pressing charges, police have continued to pursue the matter and are looking into whether or not other students might have provoked the hazing. A large crowd of at least 30 other classmates was said to have witnessed the entire proceedings.
The senior cheerleaders were suspended between one and five days, according to the police.
