Red Sox, A’s Wear 1936 Uniforms to Honor Boston’s Acquisition of Famed Slugger Jimmie Foxx (Photos)

Fans who were able to watch the game between the Boston Red Sox and the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday night at Fenway Park were in for a treat, as both teams were spotting some throwback uniforms to commemorate a special occasion in Sox history.

The Red Sox were honoring the acquisition of Hall of Fame slugger Jimmie Foxx by wearing jerseys from the 1936 season, the year that they received Foxx in a trade.

The A’s, despite being the team that traded Foxx to the Red Sox when they were located in Philadelphia, also got in on the throwback festivities by wearing their own 1936 jerseys.

Even though the A’s defeated the Red Sox, and spoiled the debut of Will Middlebrooks, fans were still able to enjoy this little slice of history.
