When news of Junior Seau‘s death reached the airwaves on Wednesday afternoon, one couldn’t help but notice the eerily similar description of Seau’s untimely end to that of another former NFL player, Dave Duerson.
Duerson took his own life in February of last year, shooting himself in the chest and leaving a note requesting that his brain be sent to the Center for the Study of Traumatic Encephalopathy at Boston University’s School of Medicine for further research. Now, the scientists at BU are reportedly attempting to acquire Seau’s brain in order to conduct similar research, according to Peter King.
The former Bears safety was discovered to be suffering from brain damage at the time of his death, continuing a disturbing trend that researchers have discovered while studying the brains of former NFL players. Whether Seau had similar symptoms is unknown at this time.
