Report: Magic Fire Head Coach Stan Van Gundy, General Manager Otis Smith

The Orlando Magic, as expected, are shaking things up in the front office and on the bench.

Yahoo's Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the Magic have fired both head coach Stan Van Gundy and general manager Otis Smith

Van Gundy's battles with All-Star center Dwight Howard became very public this past season, a campaign in which Orlando went 37-29 before bowing out in the first round of the playoffs.

There will be plenty of speculation that Howard was the direct reason that both Van Gundy and Smith are out. In fact, Van Gundy claimed in early April that he was told that Howard wanted him out.

"I know he has," Van Gundy was asked about a rumor that Howard told Magic ownership he wanted the coach out. "That's just the way it is. Again, I've been dealing with that all year. It's not anything real bothersome. You go out and do your job."

Van Gundy took over the Magic prior to the 2007-08 season. In five seasons with Orlando, he posted a 252-185 record.
